Open Workshop: Past/Present Fusion

In the storytelling world there can be a divide: those who prefer traditional stories and people who prefer to hear personal stories. Both parties have their justifications for their preferences, but at times it can feel like an unbridgeable divide. Whats a teller to do?

In this interactive workshop, well discuss what makes the two kinds of stories appealing, then explore ways to blend the qualities. For traditional stories, well focus on myths, but the principles will be applicable to folk-, fairy-, and other kinds of traditional tales. Come with a favorite traditional tale or personal story, and walk away with practical techniques you can use to increase your storys appeal to a broader audience. The workshop is open to all with an interest in storytelling whether one is just getting started in the craft or one has years of experience creating and telling stories.

Ingrid Nixon is a world-traveling storyteller who whisks listeners away on journeys of the imagination. She is a champion liar many times over, a claim that makes her mother both proud and worried. She holds a Masters in Storytelling from East Tennessee State University.
