ACS CONCERT 3
Our final concert of the 2019-20 season features a program of Romantic pieces for strings by Dvorak, Rossini, and Max Bruch. The concert will start at 3:00PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with a pre-concert reception in the Fellowship Hall at 2:15 with refreshments from Napoli Coffee and a chat about the music with ACS cellist and president James Holland.
Three Romantic masterworks with unusual instrumentations comprise this program. Dvorak's lovely Terzetto for two violins and viola opens the concert, performed for us by violinists Kerri Lay and Megan Holland, and Guillermo Figueroa on viola. A rare and unusual instrumental chamber work by a composer best known for opera, Rossini's Duetto for cello and bass will be played by cellist James Holland and bassist Aaro Heinonen. Although composed in 1920, when modernism was making inroads into music, Max Bruch's Octet for Strings, opus posthumous, is resolutely Romantic in its approach and material. ACS' performance features violinists Guillermo Figueroa, Kerri Lay, Megan Holland, and Valerie Turner, violists Kimberly Fredenburgh and Laura Steiner, cellist James Holland, and bassist Aaro Heinonen.
