ACS CONCERT I
Join Albuquerque Chamber Soloists for the first concert of our magnificent 2019-2020 season! Our concert takes place Sunday, September 29, at 3:00 PM, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Come early for a pre-concert reception with refreshments from Napoli Coffee and a short chat about the music with ACS cellist and president James Holland. This reception will start at 2:15 in the Fellowship Hall.
This program bookends two fascinating modern pieces with Romantic masterpieces. Schubert's lyrical, enchanting String Trio in B-flat major opens the program, performed by violinist Ruxandra Marquardt, violist Laura Steiner, and cellist Joel Becktell. Flutist Jesse Tatum and violinist Megan Holland join Steiner and Becktell for Aaron Copland's moving Threnodies for flute and string trio. These two short works from the early 1970's eulogize Igor Stravinsky and his friend Beatrice Cunningham. Tatum and cellist James Holland will join forces on Heitor Villa-Lobos's energetic, virtuosic Assobio a Jato (The Jet Whistle). The program will close with Felix Mendelssohn's ravishing Piano Trio in C Minor, performed by pianist Pamela Viktoria Pyle and Megan and James Holland.
We hope to see you as we inaugurate our 29th season of concerts!
