The 2013 Artsville Songwriting Competition

The 2013 Artsville Songwriting Competition (ASC) will feature 16 songwriters from around the country playing their original songs for a packed house at The Midnight Rooster Coffee Shop, Courtyard, & Eatery in beautiful downtown Hartsville, SC.

The group of songwriters is comprised of eight winners of the monthly Artsville Open Mic, plus eight "wildcard" selections that have performed at the Open Mic throughout the year. The competition runs like a single-elimination tournament, a la March Madness. The 16 songwriters are randomly assigned to a bracket. The first pair will play one song apiece, one after the other. The judges will then pick one of the songwriters to move on to the next round. We'll repeat the process until we have a winner! First prize is $500. Second place is $100.

The songwriters will be judged on five criteria: songwriting, vocal performance, instrumental performance, stage presence, and audience response. There will be five judges.

The Midnight Rooster will offer a special tapas menu from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The show will begin promptly at 7:30pm. Single tickets are $10. Table reservations (four seats) are $40.

The inaugural ASC in 2012 was a huge success, with a standing room only audience and a bevy of talented songwriters. Watch the video to get a recap of all the excitement!
