Vivaldi by Candlelight
Join UCCD for its annual Vivaldi by Candlelight fundraising gala, this year titled "The Brilliant Garden" Saturday, December 7, 2019, at the historic First Presbyterian Church; Doors open at 7:30 p.m., concert begins at 8:00 pm.
Antonio Vivaldi was the most famous composer who taught at the Ospedale della Pieta, an exceptional orphanage in Venice. Two of Vivaldis greatest protégés, Anna Maria and Chiara, rose to become among the highest acclaimed violinists of their time. Vivaldi and many others composed dozens of concertos for them though they remained in the Ospedale for their entire lives. For generations, everyone from tourists to royalty attended Ospedale concerts, and though the all-female orchestra was constrained by social mores to perform behind an iron grill and thus were not visible, their fame was second to none.
Created by music director Gerald Elias, this years extraordinary Vivaldi by Candlelight program features two of his former students - Leslie Henrie and Krista Utrilla - performing virtuoso Vivaldi concertos written for their predecessors of three hundred years.
Join UCCD for our annual gala as we explore how women have a rich history of shaping the world of music!
Vivaldi by Candlelight is a signature fundraising gala of the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy and directly supports our programs and mission. A portion of your ticket price is tax-deductible.
