Which Way Seattle? The Black Vote

Which Way Seattle is an ongoing series of civic dialogues about local and political affairs that directly impact Seattle's African-American community. This, the third installment of the Which Way Seattle Series, will feature a panel discussion on the "black vote." The panel will address what is the "black vote", who gets it and issues of African American voter turn out and the implications of disenfranchisement.African Americans have had a long historical struggle to gain voting rights. Since the 2000 presidential elections, every American has learned that "every vote counts." This election year, a large African American turn-out can potentially play a huge role in the outcome of the November elections. With many African-Americans becoming disillusioned with the political system and as younger African-Americans are increasingly calling themselves independent, this discussion of party "loyalty" and voter participation plays an important role in the American political system.
