Salman Rushdie
Cervante's epic, Don Quixote, is inarguably one of the most influential works in Western literature. Its tragicomic aspects are ripe for 21st century reimagining, and no one imagines better than Salman Rushdie. In his new novel, Quichotte, Rushdie serves up social satire, a haunting love story, and a great road trip saturated with suspense and humor. His story is deeply rooted in the America of the here and now, complete with television obsession, opiate addiction, cyberwar, racism, and the ever-present fact that we are in an age of "Anything-Can-Happen." The lines between truth and fiction blur, and we understand why Quichotte has received rave reviews and is on the Booker Prize long list.
