Pete Seeger Songfest featuring Jim Scott, to benefit Ilene Tompkins-Gillispie
Join us for a Pete Seeger 100th Birthday Songfest, featuring Jim Scott, on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at First Parish Church of Stow and Acton. The concert is a benefit for Ilene Tompkins-Gillispie, a former intern minister at First Parish Church.

Pete Seeger, American folk singer and activist, died in 2014 at 94.  He wrote or co-wrote such well-known songs as Where Have All the Flowers Gone, If I Had a Hammer, and Turn, Turn, Turn.

He also popularized songs by others, including Goodnight, Irene, and the spiritual We Shall Overcome, which became an anthem of the civil rights era.

Jim Scott is a well-known composer, guitarist and singer and performs frequently nationwide. As a member of the Paul Winter Consort, he co-wrote Missa Gaia - Earth Mass,   His compositions include the hymn Gather the Spirit, and he edited The Earth and Spirit Songbook, An Anthology of  Songs Celebrating Earth and Peace.

Ilene Kaur Tomkins-Gillispie has been diagnosed with multiple medical issues, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a complex connective tissue disorder that causes diffuse and intractable chronic pain. On June 5 she had surgery to remove a tumor on her pineal gland.

Because of these medical issues, Ilene has had to leave her position as a Unitarian-Univeralist minister in Brevard, North Carolina and her income is very limited.  Ilene's friends at Stow/Acton are organizing this concert to help her deal with the costs of her medical treatment.

Tickets for the concert are $17 in advance and $20 at the door, and are available at BrownPaperTickets.com.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30. First Parish Church is located at 353 Great Road in Stow MA, 01775. For directions, see https://fpc-stow-acton.org/driving-directions.

Organized by the Friends of Rev. Ilene Tompkins-Gillispie.
