Michigan-based Mustard's Retreat has been delighting audiences for 40 years. They are witty, insightful, fun, and profound, as well as accomplished songwriters and musicians (guitars, dulcimer, electric bass, mandolin, harmonica, pennywhistle). The group is well known in the area to Mystic Sea Music Festival fans and Custom House museum friends. They previously have performed at the Custom House and at Friday Night Folk, and were the opening act for folk legend Peter Yarrow's performance for NLMS in 2016. Following their performance on July 31, Mustard's Retreat will be seen at The Falcon Ridge Folk Festivel, in Hillsdale, New York.
Mustard's Retreat met in Ann Arbor, MI in 1974, as short order cooks on hiatus from their studies at the University of Michigan. Discovering a shared interest in music/writing and performing, they put together 3 songs one day after work, and took them to the legendary Ark coffeehouse's open mike night. They were a hit, and, on the spot, were invited back to do a 45 minute set 2 weeks later. They named their trio Mustard's Retreat after a tune Tamulevich wrote about a musical pal named Nancy Mustard and since then they've become a perennial favorite, not only in southeastern Michigan but all over the folk singer-songwriter circuit. Within a year and a half they had both quit the restaurant and were doing music full time. Forty years later, they have 12 highly acclaimed recordings of their own, plus 3 more CDs with their songwriting collective, The Yellow Room Gang. Mustard's Retreat has performed more than 4,000 shows over those years, traveled more than 1 million miles and in doing so, have earned a dedicated and loyal following, many of whom have been coming to hear them since the 1970s. Libby Glover has performed periodically with the duo and officially rejoined the band in 2018. This tour, David and Libby with be performing.
The musicians have donated this performance to the Maritime Society so most all of your ticket price is a donation.
