Galatea
Merle Birmingham is a talented sculptor in search of the ideal Galatea. The English beauty finds her flesh-n-blood model in Kate Hagen, a Brooklyn housewife doing her regular grocery shopping. Merle tracks down Kate at her apartment that she shares with her retired firefighter husband, Al. Merle quickly sees that the decades long marriage between Kate and Al is not a passionate or even harmonious one. The couple constantly participates in mean vocal sparring which has gone on for years. Their married daughter, Barbara, accepts her parents' volatile relationship but often threatens to keep her sons away when it escalates. Merle has hew own set of problems, and does not need to add the Hagen's to the mix.
