Daisy O'Connor MIXTAPE II Release at the Firefly!

Whatcom native Daisy O'Connor celebrates the release of a folkadelic country-pop romp, MIXTAPE II, which features her quirkier never-before-recorded hits alongside songs by Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Kermit the Frog, and even a queer trip-hop take on the traditional "St James Infirmary Blues." Drawing inspiration from her life on the road, Daisy is always making something new and taking the road less traveled, which has earned her a place in the competitive music scene in Austin, TX. Hilarious, inspiring, and equal part quirky and crooner, Daisy & her mixtape have a little something for everyone.

As a songwriter, there's a lot of options for recording these days, and for Mixtape II Daisy time-traveled back to the 90s, recording analog on 8-track cassette. "My earliest musical inspiration in Bellingham was No-Fi Soul Rebellion, Sufjan Stevens of course, and in Austin, Daniel Johnston. They recorded everything on their own, and I think thats the coolest. For the Mixtape sessions, we had to commit to every musical moment on tape, and there's a magical immediacy to that style of recording that can get lost in the computer world of infinite options." Inspired by her heroes with their hands on the wheel, Mixtape II is a return to roots. Let's celebrate!
