CHEF IN THE GARDEN 2019
Esteemed Seattle Chef Kaspar Donier will preside over GROW's annual Chef in the Garden fund-raising event on Wednesday, July 17th. Kaspar's menu for the evening on the beautiful grounds of the UW's Center for Urban Horticulture will feature dishes that emphasize locally sourced, garden-fresh ingredients and innovative flavor combinations.

Chef Donier is known to Seattle food aficionados as the longtime owner and master chef of Kaspars restaurant on Lower Queen Anne Hill and, more recently, his own elite catering and events business.

His Chef in the Garden menu begins with passed hors d'oeuvres: Carmelized Walla Walla Onion Tart with Beecher's Marco Polo Cheese and Fine Herb Pesto; Albacore Tuna Poke on Vegetable Rice Sushi Roll with Pickled Sea Beans; Chicken Skewer with Sweet and Sour Rhubarb Sauce; and Vegetarian Spring Rolls with Miso Aioli.

The first course will be a salad of fresh Heirloom Tomatoes with Burrata and Garden Herbs with Balsamic Syrup and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Three entrees will be offered: Honey Lavender Roasted Chicken Breast with Fingerling Potatoes, Rosemary, and Summer Garden Vegetables; or Wild Yukon River Salmon with Peach Tomato Chutney and Primavera Couscous, also with Summer Garden Vegetables;
or a Vegetarian Option, an all vegetable Lasagna (No Pasta) with Goat Cheese and Tomato Saffron Sauce, Mushroom and Stinging
Nettle Risotto

For dessert, Kaspar has planned a fresh Rhubarb Crumble with Strawberry, Champagne, Peppercorn and Balsamic Sorbet

The courses will be paired with fine Northwest wines.

Hors d'oeuvres, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m., and guests will be welcome to stroll through the extensive gardens at CUH, a treasure in the city, with glass in hand.

An array of food- and garden-related items and experiences will be featured on the silent auction tables. Dinner seating will be at 7:30 p.m.

The event, which is limited to 120 diners, is GROW's primary annual fund-raising project. All-inclusive tickets are $145.

GROW promotes the creation and protection of community gardens and orchards. It supports the Seattle P-Patch Program and other garden sponsors/advocates, and owns several garden sites. GROW works to provide expanded urban gardening opportunities, particularly for people of low income, and facilitates donations of produce to local food banks.
