Save Lolita + SROs Superpod Memorial Weekend Pet Parade - Orcas Island
"Save Lolita/Tokitae and SROs" is our entry in the 27th Annual Memorial Weekend Pet Parade on Orcas Island. Join our pod with your orca gear and signs to raise awareness about Lolita and the plan to retire her in a sea pen in her home waters, and the dire situation of her remaining 75 SRO family members who need more salmon to eat in the Salish Sea.
Puget Sound Express and parade schedule for 45 passengers: 7:15am required check-in time at Puget Sound Express 8:00am depart Port Townsend, arrive 10:00 Eastsound, Orcas Is 10:45am parade judging done at starting point 715 School Rd 11:00am parade begins
1:15pm-2:30pm Optional 1-Hour Eastsound Cruise ($25/$30pp) with Mariann Carrasco, naturalist and retired wildlife biologist; Samara Shaw, scholar of ancient local history and ancient sound technologies; and orca information panoramas created by the students of Ms. Jenny Johnston's 3rd/4th grade class.
3:00pm depart Orcas, arrive 5pm Port Townsend
This is approximately 5 hours to visit Orcas Island -- plenty of time for the parade, lunch, farmers market, and touring around town.
All are welcome to join and make a superpod for SROs and practice for Lolita's Homecoming Parade to take place in the near future! The timing coincides with the Lummi Nation's totem for Tokitae starting the journey from Miami FL to return home.
It will be great to represent individual orcas from J, K, L pods with their names and numbers! Feel free to choose any of the 75 SROs. Salmon are welcome too! Here is a list of SROs represented by NOOP and friends: https://1drv.ms/x/s!AtyJYLOA_VZLgZ9w3QzDatuhByod6Q
Information and updates on Lolita/Tokitae (daughter of L25, matriarch of L pod) are posted here: www.savelolita.org
