Swing! A New Musical
Producing Artistic Director John Lant, Tamra Pica, in association with Write Act Repertory Theatre, are pleased to present the World Premiere of SWING! by playwright Michael Antin. The show will premiere at Write Act Repertory (at The Brickhouse Theatre), previews beginning April 20, and opening April 27, 2019. Directed by Corey Lynn Howe.

Swing! tells the story of Adrianna, a factory worker in the 40's who is holding down her husband Butch's factory job while he's at war. Once he returns home, both Adrianna and Butch feel like they don't fit into their old lives. When she meets Janine, Adrianna rediscovers old passions that she put away when she was first married.  While her feelings blossom for Janine, Adrianna's love for her husband is also rekindled. Adrianna's difficult choice in a time of forbidden love fuels this passionate musical journey.

"I am very proud to present Michael Antin's newest world premiere musical, Swing!," states Producing Artistic Director John Lant of Write Act Repertory. "What started out 12+ years ago has turned into a new model creation, streaming musical theatre, here at Write Act Rep in LA and New York. This is the sixth full length installment of a musical with the character of Jake Kelly, having ranged from 1930's Germany, during the rise of fascism to near modern-day tales of the characters on the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.

Personally, as a product of a childhood and film lover of the 1970's and 1980's, these produced musicals have not run in chronological order. What has been the most fun working with Antin, dramaturg Jim Blanchette and producing partner Tamra Pica, is watching the audience that has seen or knows multiple canon unfold then talking about how each piece can be done separately as a stand-alone musical. Jake is not necessarily the main character in most of the stories but is a key figure and thread weaving the tapestry together.

Whether you have seen one or now your sixth musical, here or in NY, you will be able to enjoy our first-time directorial collaboration with Corey Lynn Howe's thoughtful modern-day love story, told in Post-World War II Baltimore, Maryland, under the musical direction of Los Angeles veteran Wayne Moore."

Swing! Is set to be Michael Antin's sixth musical in NY and his third Off-Broadway show at the historic St. Luke's, to open in the fall of 2019. John Lant currently has 4 Off-Broadway musicals running Frankenstein, Geeks, # Adulting and It Came From Beyond with Parts 2 and 3 in pre-production of the streaming musical model of ICFB.
