Norsk Folkedans Stemne presents performances and instruction in traditional dances and music from Northern Norway at Norsk Folkedans Stemne being held in Little Norway, Poulsbo WA, this year.
Folkedanslaget BUL Tromsø has been taking care of / curating and developing the local folk music and folk dances from Norway, and Northern Norway for the last 100 years! In addition we cooperate with the other Nordic countries, and we all learn music and dances from each other, which we use for social purposes. The social aspect is very important for us. We have four active dancing groups in the range 5 to 85 years of age. When we perform or travel, we include participants from all the groups, as well as musicians playing several instruments. We have weekly practices on Thursday nights, and a couple of times a year we have courses during a weekend. Then we learn i.e. Irish set dance, Swedish polska or even Latin dances. The most important thing for us is to have fun together! Take a look at our website https://bul-tromso.no/bul-troms%C3%B8/folkedans (alternatively https://bul-tromso.no and then "folkedans"), where you can refresh your Norwegian language as well as learn a bit of what we are doing.
Bodø Folkedanslaget was founded in 1976. We dance traditional folkdances and songdances and have fun together participating in tours, arrangements and festivals. Six dancers from Folkedanslaget in Bodø will participate together with Folkedanslaget BUL Tromsø in the Norsk Folkedans Stemne in Seattle and also in Junction City. The group is from the second largest city of northern Norway, slightly north of the Arctic Circle. Nearby we have the worlds strongest tidal current Saltstraumen and Kjerringoy, an old tradecenter. Lofoten is not far away. In 1994 around 30 persons from our organization visited Seattle and Junction City for the same festivals, and we look forward to seeing you again.

What is a Norsk Folkedans Stemne (nynorsk): In Norway, a stemne is a gathering of folk dancers and musicians sharing their knowledge of dances and music. Now in our fourth decade, we carry on this living tradition with Norwegian folkdance groups from Canada, the United States, and Norway who share this wonderful cultural opportunity to dance favorites, learn new dances and music, and exchange information.
Come and enjoy the immersion for all levels of dancing from beginning to advanced into all the types of Norwegian folkdancing and music from the bygdedansar, runddansar, songdansar, and turdansar og rekkedansar (figure dances and longways dances). Our website will have updates as to the dances being taught at www.seattlestemne.org
