Fran Varian is a writer, performer and activist who has been discussing class and gender politics and love stories for over a decade. Her poems and essays have been published in numerous on-line magazines and print anthologies and she has performed and featured extensively throughout the country. Recently she has been published in the Lambda winning anthology: Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation, edited by S. Bear Bergman and Kate Bornstein, and Synchronized Chaos magazine. She was a featured poet at the 2011 Atlanta Queer Literary Festival, a featured performer at 2012 National Femme Conference in Baltimore, MD, and she spent April 2013 on tour with Body Heat: The Queer Femme Tour. Notably, she has featured at the Bumbershoot Arts Festival, Seattle Poetry Festival and the San Francisco Queer Arts Festival. She was also a member of Seattle's 2000 National Poetry Slam Team. She is currently associate editor for the on-line webzine Synchronized Chaos. Fran lives with late stage Lyme disease and several serious tick-borne infections, including Q Fever, and is active in raising awareness and providing information about the disease to fellow Lyme patients, their friends, family and the general public via her organization - The Hella Pretty Lyme Fighting Army. She is currently writing a memoir called: Radioactive Sugar: A Young, Female Body and writing her first poetry manuscript called: These Fluids. She lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with a menagerie of spoiled animals, but she misses the West Coast. Accessibility Information: Hugo House is a wheelchair accessible venue. This is a scent-free event. Please do not wear perfumes, essential oils and/or other scented body, hair and clothing products. People with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS) are part of this event. Out of respect for those with MCS, we ask you to be fragrance free. Important note: We cannot be sure of an entirely scent-free environment as we'll be sharing Hugo House with another audience (in the adjoining theater) that night. For other accessibility questions, contact Tara at wordyfemme@hotmail.com
What is the BOOST model, you ask? BOOST is a grassroots model that people can use to raise money for health care costs. Tara was inspired to create it after attending one of the regular queer events in Portland, Oregon that benefits a different community member each time. She has long thought that Seattle needs just such a thing, but BOOST is not just for Seattle, you can use it anywhere! Just email wordyfemme@hotmail.com for information. Part of the BOOST model involves hosting a benefit in the form of a show. Thank you for your interest in BOOST!
