Highway Ghosts' rich vocal harmonies and inspirational songwriting have made them a household name around New England's Americana music circles. Highway Ghosts formed in 2007 when Matt Slowick (drums) joined David DeLuca (guitar, vocals), Dan Cody (guitar) and Dennis Barry (bass, vocals) for an old fashioned jam session; the result was a fantastic amalgamation of The Outlaws and Wilco with vocal harmonies reminiscent of The Jayhawks and Eagles. Highway Ghosts, immediately knew they had something good and soon delivered their critically acclaimed debut album (Top Local CDs of 2009, The Boston Globe) After All This Time, featuring Ward Hayden of Girls Guns and Glory and Jim Gambino of Swinging Steaks.
"Unsinkable" is the second album by Dave Aaronoff & The Protagonists. Recoded live in a home studio in just two days, the album captures the sound and spontaneity of the band. The songs are a mix of riotous drinking songs and bittersweet ballads that tell the stories of godless drunkards, lonely hearts, and disgruntled Americans. The band was started by Dave Aaronoff in 2006. The Protagonists feature some of Boston's most seasoned musicians: Todd Foulsham (drums), Eric Schmider (guitar), Joe Klompus (upright bass), Tim Obetz (pedal steel), Meredith Cooper (violin), and Rebekah Turner (vocals). Their songs are often sardonic and comical, and are steeped in traditional American country, folk, and rock n' roll, and occasionally veer into classic pop and tin-pan-alley era music. The band lives and performs in the Boston area.
The Big Lonesome is brothers Chad and Luke Gosselin, Joe Ziemba, and Jerry Looper. Each member is one part of a sound memorable for its complete honesty, jarring purity, and unique brand of songwriting. The group is rooted in an Americana and Alt. Country tradition where the songbook is the focal point of the music. Bands like Wilco, the Avett Brothers, and Band of Horses are clear influences. On stage the group shows an immense sensitivity to dynamics and instrumentation. Each member of the Big Lonesome is a skilled multi-instrumentalist coloring their music with the sounds of the pedal steel, slide guitar, and mandolin.
