The recently-concluded investigation by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller, III was the most consequential legal and political proceeding since Watergate. Mueller was charged with investigating Russian attempts to influence the 2016 presidential election and the possible involvement of members of the Trump campaign. For nearly two years there was a nonstop stream of indictments, guilty pleas, and breaking news, as the investigation appeared to move closer and closer to president Trumps inner circle and people like Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen, and Roger Stone became household names. But the investigation ultimately concluded with no finding of criminal misconduct by the president.
