If you've ever watched a shooting star streak across the sky and wished for an astronomy lesson with a little more "ass" than "tronomy," then Rhinestone Gorilla's "Heavenly Bodies" is your wish come true.
On June 28, the stars of Rhinestone Gorilla will streak across the stage in a show that's out of this world. Expect space oddities that will eclipse your wildest expectations as the gals explore the final full-frontal frontier. From taking on the Greek myths that inspired the constellations to some even darker matter, you can bet Uranus these intrepid space-tripping strippers will do it all with solar flare. The full moon views on Planet Gorilla would make the area around Orion's belt a little tighter and the Big Dipper even bigger, and if you're looking to laugh, you will have come to the meteo-right place. In space, no one can hear you scream, but at Parkside Lounge, your cheers are crucial to this mission. Have a drink while you enjoy the anti-gravity depravity, but remember, Tang is not included (though at some point, someone might pull something from her black hole).

Rhinestone Gorilla Burlesque is New York's ragtag army of art school delinquents. The troupe--which specializes in narrative burlesque, pop culture and literary adaptations, lowbrow comedy, audience competitions, cheesy disco covers, and self-indulgent '90s nostalgia--are not your average showgirls; they're rhinestones in the rough, anti-glamour guerilla grrrls prone to attack and entice. The troupe--which created the celebrated Animaniacs burlesque musical, "Good Idea/Bad Idea"--has recently returned from a 15-city national tour.
Formerly known as Alpha Psi Ecdysia, Rhinestone Gorilla Burlesque was founded in 2008 as the nation's premier undergraduate burlesque troupe. While based on the campus of the State University of New York at New Paltz, Rhinestone Gorilla lived a double life as an educational institution and a professional producing entity. On the New Paltz campus, Rhinestone Gorilla dedicated itself to teaching burlesque history, the politics of neo-burlesque and the practice of burlesque performance; off-campus, Rhinestone Gorilla was the underage darling of the New York stripperformance art scene, getting naked on school nights at The Slipper Room, Rififi, Public Assembly, and Sugarland and in venues in LA, SF, Boston, and beyond. Though frequent subjects of controversy and police activity, Rhinestone Gorilla's students on the SUNY campus--who have inherited the name Alpha Psi Ecdysia--remain the only state-sponsored strippers in the nation.
"Wildly inventive, completely nuts, and charming through-and-through." -Flavorpill
"These cerebral ladies, cast in the Lena Dunham mold of young, smart, sexy, nerdy, nerdy-sexy women, show off their high brow cred and low brow spred all in titillating, sparkly, see-through costumes..." - Burlesque Beat
