Cellospeak Presents: Bomin Collins & Susanna Mendlow
Cellospeak presents an evening of music with the organization's leadership, cellists Bomin Collins and Susanna Mendlow. The concert begins with the music of 18th-century cellist and composer Jean-Baptiste Barriere, whose collections of sonatas continue to inspire modern performers. The program continues with Felix Mendelssohn's third violin sonata, arranged for cello by Susanna Mendlow. Though he composed the entire work in 1838, Mendelssohn immediately began revising it the following year. The composer died before finishing the revision, which was rediscovered and completed by the violinist Yehudi Menuhin in 1953. This evening's performance features the world premiere of the piece on cello. The concert concludes with Sergei Rachmaninoff's powerful sonata for cello and piano. Written at the turn of the 20th century, this work demonstrates not only the extent of the cello's capacity for lyricism but also the piano's virtuosity and range.
Pianists Michael Angelucci and Sophia Kim Cook join for this evening of beautiful music.
