HEAT: A Burlesque to Fight Climate Change
It's easy to feel helpless when reading the news about climate change. The UN climate report released in late 2018 let us know that we have until 2030 to cut carbon emissions by 45% from 2010 levels to avoid catastrophic warming. What's more, we know that little individual lifestyle changes, though important, aren't enough when 100 companies in the world are responsible for 71% of all emissions (spoiler alert: they're all fossil fuel producers). But we can't give in to fear! We cannot just roll over and let corporations like these, and the governments who support them, win. If European countries can go carbon-free by 2030, so can North American ones. The technology is there; we just need to pressure our governments - at all levels - to make the leap.
That's where you come in! A bunch of burlesque performers and a couple of producers decided to channel our frustration into art and raise awareness and funds to put pressure on governments to take necessary action. There are a bunch of great organizations that are doing just that, and we'll not only be giving you some info on them at the show, but all proceeds will be donated to one of them: the David Suzuki Foundation's Blue Dot movement (http://bluedot.ca/). Climate change can be a scary issue, but hope is still alive and well - come contribute to keeping our world inhabitable while having fun with your friends and being entertained by a lineup of passionate burlesque artists! All acts are politically/environmentally themed to fit the topic, and are brand-new or rarely seen!
