Thank you for supporting our Youth Leadership Program! Leaders are elected from applications, interviews, and peer nominations in January and attend a spring leadership retreat before working in teams to direct younger students in summer performance classes. Shows like "The Realm" would not be possible without your support! Check us out online (www.backstorytheatre.org) for more information on upcoming productions from our company.

The Realm (BLYP)
Step into the strange world of The Realm, where words have powerful meaning and young heroes are faced with pivotal choices in creating or unmaking their reality. Written by Sarah Myers and produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.
(www.playscripts.com), this dramatic play is developed and performed entirely by the teen members of BackStory Theatre's Youth Leadership Program and teen cast members selected through an audition process. Ticket proceeds benefit continuation of this awesome program!

BackStory Youth Leadership Program (BYLP) was developed in 2017 as an extension of BackStorys work study program for advanced students and in an effort to expand leadership opportunities for students interested in pursuing higher education in the fields of theatre arts, teaching, and public service. Students ages 14-18, identified through peer or instructor recommendation, work in cohorts of three with an adult supervisor to develop summer theatre programs for beginning and intermediate performers ages 8-13 which culminate in stage shows at the Broomfield Auditorium. In addition, Youth Leaders collaborate throughout the summer or spring to produce an original play for public performance. Throughout the year, BYLP members teach free workshops in community spaces for local youth as a service project. Participants meet quarterly to review roles and responsibilities and learn essential skills for classroom management, theatrical direction, stage show production, stage management, marketing, and script writing. A Steering Committee of four members is elected from the larger group during their spring learning summit to meet monthly and learn the production and management aspect of the BYLP and the theatre company. This year, BYLP members have produced 8 shows, including A Seussified Pride & Prejudice for the City & County of Broomfield's culture series, and taught over 90 young actors through fee-based summer camps and free workshops at The Refuge!
