Getting Started With Microsoft Excel -- Gene Waddell

Microsofts Excel program is a very useful tool that can be used for a variety of everyday tasks. With a little practice, you can keep track of just about anything, whether its your checking account, stock portfolio, weight loss program, or golf game. If youre a visual person, you can use your data to create graphs and charts.

NOTE: THIS CLASS IS FOR PC USERS ONLY (NOT APPLE). ALSO, YOU MUST BRING A LAPTOP WITH YOU THAT HAS EXCEL ALREADY LOADED. ALL VERSIONS OF EXCEL ARE OK. There will be enough electrical outlets for everyone, so your laptop's battery life will not be an issue.

This class will focus on basic operations and functions of the program, including how to:

-- open a new or existing file;
-- create and name a spreadsheet;
-- enter data;
-- use the edit, copy, and paste commands;
-- add, multiply, or divide;
-- use the auto-sum, average, and other built-in functions;
-- create a simple Excel graph;
-- email an Excel file.

People who enroll in this class will be able (and encouraged) to email their questions and concerns about using Excel to the instructor a week before the class.

Your instructor will also discuss other resources for learning Excel, including:
free how-to videos available on YouTube and other websites and tutorials that are embedded in newer versions of Excel.

Gene Waddell has 25+ years of experience using Microsoft Excel at work, school, and home. Gene has used Excel to: manage government fleets by keeping track of vehicles, equipment, and budgets; scrunching data and creating databases while completing college coursework; compiling data on a wide array of topics including storm drains, litter accumulation, pesticide usage; performing related city operations for a municipal storm-water program; and keeping track of household expenses.
