Based on Puccini's La Bohème, this rock opera chronicles one year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in modern-day New York's Lower East Side.
The story centers around Mark and Roger, two roommates. While a former tragedy has made Roger numb to life, Mark tries to capture it through his attempts to make a film. In the year that follows, the group deals with love, loss, AIDS, and modern day life in one truly powerful story.
Rent runs at the Shane Center in Livingston from June 28 July 21, playing Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm. Tickets are $16 for adults, $13 for college students and seniors, and $10 for youth, and are available at theshanecenter.org or by calling (406) 222-1420.
