For tonights concert, pianist/compser Mara Rosenbloom will continue the celebration of her latest release, Songs From the Ground (Fresh Sound New Talent). The album, unearths stories of home, family, childhood, memory, wistful nostalgia and personal trauma; the music reaches ambitiously forward while maintaining a grounded folk simplicity. Rosenbloom's compositions reveal an intellectual curiosity which has never lost a childlike sense of wonder, a mature sensibility combining narrative scope with direct emotional expression.
Tilling that ground alongside Rosenbloom is her longstanding, highly attuned quartet Downbeat Rising Star saxophonist Darius Jones, hailed as both "fearless" and "soulful" by the New York Times, highly in demand bassist Sean Conly (Andrew Hill, Tony Malaby, Paquito D'Rivera), and "ubiquitous" drummer, Chad Taylor - noted by press for his "sparkle of energy," and "sense of poetry."
