* see note below about the sliding scale

George Lakey, author of How We Win: A Guide to Nonviolent Direct Action Campaigning, has led over 1500 workshops on five continents. He was first arrested in the civil rights movement and was a trainer for 1964 Mississippi Freedom Summer. In 2018 he was arrested campaigning for Power Local Green Jobs.  In between he gave leadership to campaigns on neighborhood, city-wide, state, national, and international levels, including cross-race, cross-class coalitions and the LGBTQ movement.   He is one of the co-founders of Earth Quaker Action Team - a group that sucessfully got PNC bank chain to stop funding mountain top removal and now is working to force PECO, the local power company to change from heavy fossil fuel consumption to alternative energy. He also taught conflict studies at colleges and universities, and authored ten books on how to bring about change.

A participatory 3 hour workshop, a lively exploration of how to build power to contribute toward a movement of movements.

Learn how to start and conduct a nonviolent direct action campaign,  including

choosing an effective campaign strategy

About Our sliding scale.  Our scale is designed to reflect and educate about the true financial reality of Americans. It shows 5 economic class groups based upon the actual medium income in the US of 31,000 and uses Census Bureau info to break everyone into 5 income groups.

This is an individual scale.  To place yourself please think of your families take home income and divide by the number of people in your family (eg 1 earns 40,000 and one earns 60,000 this equals 100,00-divided by 2 equally 50,000 for where to put yourself on the scale - regardless of whether you are the 40K or 60K earner in the family.   If you have two children than 100k divided by 4 would put you at 25K.  We are aware that some people have catastrophic expenses like health care or child support, etc so adjust yourself down a category if that seems fair.  No one is checking on this - it is for you to think about.
