Omar Berrada & Tinashe Mushakavanhu
Omar Berrada is a writer and curator. He is editor, with Erik Bullot, of Expanded Translation  A Treason Treatise, a book of verbal and visual betrayals; and, with Yto Barrada, of Album  Cinémathèque de Tanger (Tenov Books). He recently edited The Africans (Kulte Editions), a book on migration and racial politics in Morocco. He has translated books by Jalal Toufic, Stanley Cavell, and Joan Retallack. His poetry was published in Wave Composition, Asymptote, Seedings, and the University of California Book of North African Literature, among others. In 2017 Omar was the guest curator of the Abraaj Group Art Prize and a co-editor of Sharjah Biennials web journal tamawuj.org. He is the Director of Dar al-Mamûn, a library and artists residency in Marrakech, and lives in New York, where he teaches at The Cooper Union and co-organizes the IDS Lecture Series.

Tinashe Mushakavanhu is co-author of a few books, most recently Some Writers Can Give You Two Heartbeats (forthcoming). He is at work on a series of essays about history, memory and black land ownership in Zimbabwe in the 1930s, and a book on Dambudzo Marechera: The Enfant Terrible of African Literature. He is a founding partner with Nontsikelelo Mutiti of Black Chalk & Co, a boutique agency engendering new forms of publishing and creative production. He holds degrees from English, Welsh and Zimbabwean universities.

Collaboratively curated, the Friday night series brings writers, artists, critics, performers, and audiences together in an uncontainable assembly. We host readers from here and elsewhere to invite resonances across practices, open and press urgent dialogues, and build a space for shared struggles. Were holding out for writing which has the potential to make things otherwise.
