Eastward Bound w/ John Finan and Luti Erbeznik

Three seasoned multi-instrumentalists are bringing you a mix of original songs and a taste of folk music from the Balkans! Eastward Bound is Luti Erbenik (vocals, guitars and percussion), John Finan, (vocals, guitars, keys, percussion) and Scott Williams (drums, percussion, vocals). In addition to traditional tunes in elusive time signatures, you will also enjoy their original music, featuring sounds of the distant East in this transatlantic musical tour!

A Macedonian-born singer/songwriter, Luti immigrated to the U.S. three decades ago to study molecular biology. As his home country (Yugoslavia) was torn apart by a brutal civil war, Lutis passion for truth telling, songwriting and performance grew. With his solo albums Half a Century Later and Whistleblower, Luti brings us the vibrant rhythms and surprising chord progressions of southeastern European folk. His engaging voice, accompanied by melodic guitars and rich percussion, returns us to nature, awakens our social consciousness, and affirms the possibility of universal love.

John Finan is Michigans well-recognized guitarist, singer and composer, having been on the music scene in Metro Detroit since the 1980s. After a few years of playing in various oldies-revival bands, he rediscovered his acoustic upbringing, kept his electric edge, and began to write. The resulting music includes songs of love, loss, heartbreak, and humor all catchy melodies delivered in a distinctive tenor voice. John also performs with Sharon Tse and a band In Harmonys Way. Johns fifth CD, entitled Believer, has just been released and you will hear a couple of tracks from it performed this evening!

Scott Williams is a brilliant percussionist, the only one in the trio with formal music education and work experience with symphony orchestras. He performs with several other bands in the greater Detroit area including The Detroit Doors, Tin Soup, and Whistleblowers, and has now immersed himself in Eastward Bounds music featuring syncopated percussion, vocal harmonies, double guitar leads, delicate piano and a few surprises.
