CREATING THE NARRATIVE CLOWN SHOW: Taught by La Piara
Taught by La Piara (Fernando Córdova, Madeleine Sierra, Artús Chávez, Seth Bockley, and Devon de Mayo)

Three-Day Workshop:
Sat. July 20, 10a - 2p
Sun. July 21, 10a - 2p
Mon. July 22, 2-6p followed by final presentation

About the Workshop:
Participants will follow a show creation process from beginning to end. They will learn the steps necessary to create a new narrative-based clown play, both in theory and in practice, through exercises and examples. The workshop will empower participants to identify and develop successful narratives through improvisation and play.

About the Instructors:
La Piara is a Mexican company formed by Madeleine Sierra, Fernando Cordova and Artús Chávez. The three have studied clown and bouffant with several teachers around the world. As a company, their interest is to tell sordid stories (sometimes from real life) with humor and acidity. The Strange Case of Tai Chi and Té Chai, their first show, was directed by Elena Olivieri (Italy) and written with Juanma Rodriguez (Spain). It premiered at the Foro La Gruta in 2010, and continued its run at the Foro Shakespeare.

Seth Bockley and Devon De Mayo first worked together in 2010 when they cowrote and directed The Twins Would Like to Say for Dog & Pony Theatre Company (for which de Mayo is a founder and Co-Artistic Director). With the support of TCG's On The Road grant, they traveled to Mexico in 2011 to work with Artús Chávez on a project that became GUERRA: A Clown Play. Seth Bockley is a Chicago-based playwright, director and performer. He was a recipient of Theater Communication Group's "New Generations" grant, and is an artist in residence at the University of Chicago and the Goodman Theater. Devon de Mayo is the Co-Artistic Director of Dog & Pony Theatre Company.
