Jason Shotts: 'The Simplest Option'

THE SIMPLEST OPTION (3 hours)
One of the most common notes we hear after a tough improv show is: It was just way too complicated or There were too many things happening onstage. Instead of holding onto a simple choice, we unnecessarily add more and more stuff to our scenes. We make the mistake of listening to the voice in our head screaming: This isnt enough! Start talking about something else! One minute youre obsessing about Indian food. Next youre talking about Spiderman. Ice cream. Quantum mechanics. Youre lost (and so is your audience). In this workshop, well work on identifying a simple thing for you. Then well figure out your characters Up and their Down. A simple scene is a scene you can navigate. Stop getting lost!

Jason Shotts
Jason currently lives in Los Angeles, but started performing improv at Chicago's iO Theater in 2003. In 2006, he started teaching there and was awarded "Best Teacher" in 2011 & 2013. Now Jason is performing around Los Angeles as one-half of the improv duo "Dummy", winner of iOs Del Award for Best Improv Show in 2013 & 2014. In addition to coaching improvisers all over Los Angeles, he travels around the world teaching at improv festivals and theaters.
