Price of Everything Talkback featuring Juan Alonso-Rodriguez

ABOUT THIS EVENT:
The Price of Everything is a feature documentary directed by twice Academy Award-nominated Nathaniel Kahn. The film, which premieres theatrically on October 19th, explores the roles of art and artistic passion in todays money-driven, consumer-based society exposing deep contradictions as it holds a mirror up to contemporary values and times.
The film, together with the conversations it inspires, can galvanize audiences to bring into the public dialogue the challenges todays artists encounter in an increasingly commodified market and worldwith the goal of changing these conditions so that all artists have the opportunity to thrive. We hope you will come to the screening, and afterwards, add your voice to the important issues the film touches on.
Following the film, join Artist Trust for an audience talkback hosted by Juan Alonso-Rodriguez, a local visual artist with a deep understanding of the art market. Juan will lead the audience in a conversation about the film and share his perspective on the challenges and opportunities of being an artist and selling work.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Cuban-born Juan Alonso-Rodríguez is a self-taught artist with a career spanning over three decades in Seattle. His work has been exhibited throughout the US, Canada and Latin America and is included in the permanent collections of the Tacoma Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, Museum of Northwest Art, Microsoft, Swedish & Harborview Hospitals and General Mills, among many others. He has created public works for Century Link Field, Seattle/Tacoma International Airport, King County Housing Authority, Epiphany School, Sound Transits Light Rail system, Chief Sealth High School and Renton Technical College. His awards include a 2010 Seattle Mayors Arts Award, The Neddy Fellowship, PONCHO Artist of the Year, two Artist Trust GAPs, two 4Culture Individual Artist Grants, ArtSpaces 2016 DeJunius Hughes Award for Activism and the 2017 Conductive Garboil Grant. Juan is a Seattle Arts Commissioner and serves on the citys Public Art Advisory Committee.
