A ROLL OF THE DICE WORKSHOP: INTERSECTING RESEARCH AND PRACTICE TO END SYSTEMIC DISPROPORTIONALITY IN THE PUGET SOUND

MOVING RESEARCH INTO PRACTICE!
Roll of the Dice is an interactive training "game" designed to strengthen community leaders' and professionals' ability to understand and work with the causes and effects of racial and economic disproportionality. The experience brings together readily available quantitative research/statistical measurements in a fun, personal and interactive manner that mobilizes participants to better understand, integrate and apply research and evaluation into their efforts. It feels like playing a game with the side benefit that participants learn about statistics and research that can help inform their work and improve their communities.
INTENDED WORKSHOP OUTCOMES:
*Awareness of a variety of youth and family well-being indicators.
*Awareness of statistical measures for racial and economic disproportionality (over and under representation of diverse racial/ethnic groups) in the child welfare, health, social services, education, juvenile justice and criminal justice systems.
*Awareness of the interrelation between race and class.
*Understanding of how positive and negative well-being outcomes are compounded by experiences and interactions with multiple systems.
*Understanding of how systems (e.g. education, economic development, child welfare, juvenile justice, etc.) intersect on the issue of disproportionality.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Practicing and in-training social and human service professionals. And anyone desiring a deeper understanding of how and why racial, social and economic conditions exists the way they do in our society.
