Yiddish Favorites Old & New
These folk songs represent the lost world of European Jewish life and Yiddish culture and were especially popular in Europe between the two world wars. We'll also sing Yiddish theatre songs, which brought to life the immigrants dreams and difficulties in the new world and nostalgia for their old country. Favorites from Itzik Manger, Mordechai Gebirtig and Molly Picon with new Yiddish folk music by Chava Alberstein and Arkady Gendler.
Everyone receives all the song lyrics in Yiddish transliteration and English translation to sing along with CINDY PALEY and the amazing GOLDEN STATE KLEZMERS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CINDY PALEY has delighted Jewish communities across the country for over 30 years with her rich repertoire of Jewish music, as featured in her timeless audio recordings and dynamic live performances. Cindy's love of Yiddish music and culture began as a child at the Valley Kindershule in the San Fernando Valley. Cindy is the cantorial soloist for Lev Eisha and the Valley Beth Shalom Neshama Minyan, two creative Shabbat women's services in Los Angeles. This past summer Cindy toured Poland, performing six concerts of Yiddish Love Songs with Menachem Mirski and his klezmer band, and presenting Yiddish music workshops at the Krakow Jewish Culture Festival. Cindy's performances blend story and song, and are brimming with a contagious energy that is guaranteed to get everyone singing.
