Twelve years after the Lower Duwamish Waterway was listed as a Superfund site, EPA has finally released its proposed plan for the sediment cleanup. The plan presents an intricate patchwork of proposed remedial actions, including dredging, capping, and enhanced natural recovery, overlaid on an extensive modeling grid of sediment dynamics. The cost to implement EPA's preferred alternative is estimated at $305M, adding yet another series of construction projects to the major infrastructure projects already underway in Seattle. Join Tad Deshler, who has worked on the Duwamish for the entire 12-year period, for a talk about the details of the proposed plan. The public comment period runs until June 13, 2013, so you still have ample opportunity to learn more about this project and let EPA know what you (or your clients) think about the plan.
Speaker: Tad Deshler is founder and owner of Coho Environmental LLC, an environmental consulting firm specializing in contaminated site assessment and impact assessment, particularly at sediment sites. Prior to forming Coho, he was co-founder of Windward Environmental, where he conducted the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study for the Duwamish on behalf of the Lower Duwamish Waterway Group. Mr. Deshler earned a bachelor's degree in aquatic biology from UC Santa Barbara and a master's degree in animal science from UC Davis.
