Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra Benefit Concert
This year's event will feature the Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra along with guest vocal soloist Beatrice Gilbert.

The concert will be followed by free wine and hors d'oeuvres.

The Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra was first organized in 1924 by German-born conductor, composer, and music teacher Conrad Gebelein (at left, ca. 1925)and performs numerous concerts in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. metropolitan area throughout the year.

Beatrice Gilbert has been the featured vocal soloist with the Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra since 1994.  She can be heard on the BMO's CD "City by the Sea."  She is a popular guest soloist at local churches and has performed professionally with many organizations and in many venues, including traditional Italian-American festivals in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

The Columbia Council 7559 was charted in 1980 in Columbia, Maryland and is devoted to performing charity in the Howard County.  Since its founding the council has donated over $100,000 to local non-profit organizations and has performed over 25,000 hours of volunteer service.

Net proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Tanzanian Children's Project (TCP) which was founded to raise money to provide financial support to enhance the quality of health care and education in small community in Tanzania. Orphans in particular will benefit from these services. TCP supports the Mahida Catholic Church located in the Rombo District of Tanzania under the leadership of Reverend Emmanuel Lyimo who is responsible for the daily operations and management of the projects being funded.

The long term goals of TCP are to provide:
Health care for the local community
A guaranteed education for all children
An orphanage for the most vulnerable orphans
