BIOGRAPHY
Playing a wide variety of Gospel and Traditional Bluegrass Music, the Lewis County Pickers have played together for over 20 years.
Began as "The Lewis County Pickin' Party" back in the 1990s.
The group consisted of Fred & Merry Hart, Cindy Compton and Gary Phelps. Playing together for over 20 years, mostly at local venues with Monique Larsen and Richard Weeks joining them on occasion. Gary Phelps our fiddle player, passed away in 2014. We regrouped adding Monique, Richard and Becky Thornton.
The group today are known as the "The Lewis County Pickers".
Fred & Merry Hart have been married for 44 and live in Chehalis. They have been playing Bluegrass since the 1970s. Fred plays the stand-up bass and Merry plays guitar and adds vocals.
Cindy Compton has been an integral part of this band from the beginning. Shes played the 5-string banjo for over 30 years. Cindy retired from state service about 10 years ago and lives in Adna with her 2 cats and 1 dog.
Monique Larsen, vocalist and mandolin player, Washington native, lives in Chehalis with husband Craig, and their Maltese dog Gus. Works for State of Washington and is looking forward to retirement and spending more time on their little farm & gardens.
Richard Weeks lives in Lacey, with wife Beven. They also have a cabin in Lewis County. He has played folk & Bluegrass music since the age of 5. He plays the 5-string banjo, guitar, and sings vocals as part of the Lewis County Pickers.
Becky Thornton has been singing Bluegrass from the age of 3. It wasnt until 15 years ago when she attended her first bluegrass concert that she realized that was the music she had been singing her whole life. Becky sings lead and harmony vocals and helps out with percussion. She lives in Doty with husband Robert of 42 years.
