Music Crosses Borders - Seattle Peace Chorus

Seattle Peace Chorus performs on two nights, Saturday and Sunday, at the University Congregational Church, 4515 16th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98105.

This concert focuses on how we as a society treat the foreigner, the stranger, and the immigrant, appreciating the diversity of culture brought to our shores by each new wave of people.

Seattle Peace Chorus will sing music from a range of recent immigrant cultures, reflecting the rich cultural contributions that all people bring to our country. Our message reflects the great teachings of the world: be kind to the stranger and traveler, as any one of us could find ourselves in need of help in hard times.

From India, well sing music reflecting the story of Rama and Sita, while Alma Villegas, soloist with Azúcar, will sing traditional Mexican songs. Correo Aereo features Madeleine Sosin playing maracas and violin and Abel Rocha, a virtuoso of the traditional Mexican folk harp.

We will sing Many Rivers to Cross by Jimmy Cliff and Bridges Not Walls by Doug Balcolm. The Seattle Iranian Choir will sing traditional Persian music.

Other new arrangements include the classic 60s song White Bird, composed by Its a Beautiful Day, symbolizing for us the freedom of songs to move across borders for the cultural enrichment of the world.

Founded in 2014, the Seattle Iranian Choir directed by chorus member Afshin Sepehri, focuses on Iranian/Persian songs.

As in past concerts, the Chorus hopes to also offer a pre-concert lecture on the topic of immigration and asylum issues.
