Bucks County Symphony Orchestra 2018 Family Concert
The Bucks County Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Family Concert at Central Bucks High School West in Doylestown, PA.

The BCSO will feature its Youth Concerto Competition prize winner, 14-year-old cellist Anya Chan. She will perform the first movement Dmitri Kabalevskys exciting Cello Concerto. Guest choral performers will be the Robe Choir and H-Factor from Holicong Middle School, under the direction of Jim Glaser. A special tribute to Rodgers & Hammerstein will be the BCSOs musical contribution to Doylestown Townships Bicentennial celebration. What a wonderful way for the entire family to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment together!

TICKETS: $10 for adults, students admitted FREE.

The Orchestra will be joined by Holicong Middle Schoolin its performance of Mary Lynn Lightfoots Festival Fanfare and Mozarts Ave Verum Corpus.  The singers and orchestra will also present a medley from The Sound of Music, a special tribute to former Doylestown Township resident Oscar Hammerstein during this year of the townships Bicentennial celebration.

The BCSO opens the concert with Morning Sunrise and In the Hall of the Mountain King from Edvard Griegs Peer Gynt Suite, followed by Bedrich Smetanas The Moldau.  The orchestra will also play two movements from Beethovens expressive Symphony No. 6 (Storm and Joyful Thanks After the Storm).

A highlight of the afternoon's concert is a performance of Dmitry Kabalevskys Cello Concerto (1st movement), played by 14-year-old Anya Chan, winner of the BCSO's Youth Concerto Competition.  Anya is a student at Radnor High School and member of the Delaware County Youth Orchestra.  She studies cello with Jie Jin, winning 1st prize in the Vivace Music Competition for junior cello and honorable mention in both the PMTA Keystone Chamber Music Competition and the Tri-County Youth Festival.  As a member of the Radnor Community Musicians she plays music for hospice patients in the local community.
