EVIDENCE at The TANK
Evidence is a collaboration between sound artists Stephan Moore and Scott Smallwood. Since 2001, they have developed a distinctive language of deeply layered sound, using field recordings of natural and industrial sounds as a primary source of inspiration and sonic material. Their activities range from studio compositions and live improvisations to sound installations, street performances, and collaborations with other musicians, choreographers, and video artists. They have presented their work world-wide, including recent appearances at the Balance-Unbalance Conference in Manizales, Colombia, the New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) Conference in Brisbane, Australia, and at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in upstate New York.
Stephan Moore is an audio artist, sound designer, composer, improviser, teacher, and curator based in Chicago. His creative work manifests as electronic studio compositions, improvisational outbursts, sound installations, scores for collaborative performances, algorithmic compositions, and sound designs for unusual circumstances. He is the president of Isobel Audio, LLC, and is a member of the American Society for Acoustic Ecology, The Nerve Tank, a canary torsi, Composers Inside Electronics, and the Wingspace Theatrical Collective. He toured for several years as the music coordinator and sound engineer of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and has worked with Pauline Oliveros, Anthony McCall, and Animal Collective, among others. Scott Smallwood is a sound artist, composer and musician who creates works inspired by discovered textures and forms, through a practice of listening, field recording, and sonic improvisation. He frequently creates works using custom instruments, software, and site specific environments. He has collaborated with musicians, dancers, video artists, sculptors and others. He has written instrumental works for numerous ensembles and musicians, including recent works for Continuum Ensemble (Toronto), the New York Virtuoso Singers, the Nash Ensemble of London, and the Princeton Laptop Orchestra. Smallwood lives and works in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada, where he serves as Associate Professor of Music Composition at the University of Alberta. More information at scott-smallwood.com.
Samantha Wade is the Resident Engineer at The TANK Center for Sonic Arts, where she has been singing since age 11. Shes an official guide to The TANK, and is known as The Voice of The TANK, singing for visitors and encouraging them to sing. Samantha trained as a recording engineer with The TANKs team of professionals, often assisting them on recording projects. She has been credited on several CDs, both as a vocalist and as a recording engineer. Her singing was featured in a Los Angeles Times article on The TANK. This fall she will be a Resident Fellow at The Music District in Fort Collins. She is the recipient of a 2018 Career Advancement Award from Colorado Creative Industries.
