Man of La Mancha
In sixteenth-century Seville, Spain, a part-time actor, poet and playwright named Don Miguel de Cervantes has been imprisoned by the Spanish Inquisition for an offense against the Church. In their dungeon, the other prisoners accost Cervantes and his manservant with the intent of stealing all their possessions. Desperate to save a manuscript he carries with him, Cervantes demands a trial and stages, with the help of his devoted servant, his own defense: the story of Don Quixote. Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes' masterpiece, "Man of La Mancha" is one of the most successful musicals in Broadway history. Powerful, brutal, hilarious, and heartbreaking, it celebrates the perseverance of a man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion. The award-winning score includes classics such as "The Impossible Dream," "I, Don Quixote," "Dulcinea," "I Really Like Him," "Little Bird," and "To Each His Dulcinea."
