"Crippled Inside"
Dateline: Washington, D.C. late 1960s. John Matherson, a high ranking Department of Justice official, has a son, James Matherson. James is a high school student in the middle of his, make or break year of college applications. Fifty years later James looks back as he grapples with his new role as an Historian on PBS. The family's story reflects the political turmoil present in the United States in the 1960s. Pop culture must be acknowledged as a player: music, drugs, and changing moral perspectives help to drive the plot. Addiction and mental illness highlight the fragile line on which society balances its hopes and higher aspirations.
