ALBERTO ZAYDEN: REVOLUTIONS DON'T COME TO PARADISE

A scathing comic satire on America's obsession with wealth parallels Fidel Castro's Cuban revolution with the Trump election.  Alberto Zayden summons characters from his multi-ethnic family to show how exasperated populations are easily drawn to false prophets. Intertwining anecdotes, poetry and mimicry he conjures a New York journey from the Thompkins Square Park riots, to the world of billionaire celebrities.  The greatest gift of the show is the ability to tackle a serious subject while keeping the audience laughing and engaged.

Alberto Zayden is a Cuban/Lebanese, East Village poet born in Havana.  His play The Cigarette Exchange, was produced by Synchronicity Space (later the Culture Project).  His poetry has appeared in the Caffe Review, EAR Magazine and Live Mag, among others.  He has performed extensively in New York, L.A., New Orleans, Miami and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival collaborating with actors, musicians and dance companies.  Poet and NY Times dance critic Jack Anderson has called his poetry visionary.  He is currently shopping a novel inspired by his family's travels and working with an illustrator on a graphic poem.

VISIONARY POETRY!  Jack Anderson in the New York Times reviewing ENRREDADERAS: ENTANGLEMENTS with Octavia Cup Dance Company.

Downtown's intimate supper-club Pangea is the ultimate in alt, playing home to some of the best in alt cabaret. The New York Times recently called it "a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by."
