Love in the Grave
In the beginning of 21st century a group of homeless people found asylum in the German evangelistic graveyard in Prague. Among them is a couple of "eternal fiancés": Jana, a 30 year old ex-prostitute, and Jan, a 50 year old unemployed bricklayer, who share a common pastime of drinking alcohol. The homeless couple settles down between urns in an old German tomb. Jan feeds the family by salvaging and reselling items from dumpsters while Jana takes care of the household. The idyllic life in the graveyard begins evaporating when the administration decides the graveyard needs to be repaired and the sepulchers and graveyard must be evacuated. Jana and Jan are displaced from their "luxury home" but are able to stay in the graveyard when Jan strikes a deal with the administrator, relocating them to one of the graveyard's tool shed. After the move, both return to their origins for a while; Jana travels to her hometown to get her documents and Jan goes to his hometown to see his mother. Confrontation with the past is very painful for both of them, and their common life in Prague seems to be their destiny. They don't want, and they can't change, the way they live. Winter comes and the homeless couple survives only through constant drunkenness leading them to be physically and mentally broken. After the winter the police return to the graveyard to evict them from the tool shed. The longtime love of Jan and Jana ends and each one struggles to survive on their own on the street. Jana gets very sick and soon dies. Jan lives on the street, reminiscing of the most beautiful years of his life; the life with Jana. The film is made as an observational documentary during years 2007 - 2011.
