Sing for Joy
Bernstein's Chichester Psalms; and Dan Forrest's Jubilate Deo.
Bernstein's creation is a magically unique blend of Biblical Hebrew verse and Christian choral tradition, a musical depiction of the composers hope for brotherhood and peace. Its world premiere was conducted by the composer himself in 1965.
Dan Forrests Jubilate Deo brings to life the global aspect of the traditional Psalm 100 text, O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands, by setting it in seven different languages, including Latin, Hebrew and Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Zulu, and Spanish, and closes with a movement combining several of these languages with English. Each movement combines some characteristics of its language-groups musical culture with the composers own musical language.
Ryan Tibbetts will conduct the singers and orchestra, and nationally-renowned organist Daniel Stipe will accompany and perform.
