EMBRACE, Gateway Dance Theatres new and unique creative project combines dance, world music, the spoken word and shadow puppets tell the story of a village people and their protection of trees from an invading army. It is a heroic story from India and serves as the cornerstone of many environmental movements throughout India and beyond. Embrace will further awareness of climate change, the green effect, and how it connects to humanity using the profound words of, Chief Seattle, a deeply grounded environmentalist and Native American, who understood that the future depends upon respecting nature and all life: Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect."
GDTs innovative adaptation features an inter cultural approach that takes advantage of an ethnically diverse cast by fusing various art forms. Embrace is a perfect example of GDTs vision, which aims
at integrating and enhancing the arts across Iowa.
