A Celebration of Life and Music
Celebrated clarinetist Larry Combs will join with daughter Jennifer Combs to perform works of Beethoven, Brahms, and Jennifers late husband, composer & pianist Andrzej Anweiler.
They will be joined by pianist Rick Ferguson, Co-Founder & Artistic Director of The Musical Offering, Evanston's Community Music School.

About the Artists:
LARRY COMBS
Larry Combs was Principal Clarinet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1978 to 2008 and has been on the DePaul School of Music Faculty since 1981. He is a founding member of the Chicago Chamber Musicians and served as Artistic Co-Director of that organization from 1987 to 1995. He has recorded virtually the entire orchestral repertoire with the Chicago Symphony under such conductors as Solti, Barenboim, Levine, Abbado, Tilson Thomas, Boulez and others. Recent solo and chamber recordings include releases on the Cedille, Summit, and Erato labels. He was awarded the Grammy in 1994 by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for his participation in a recording of chamber music of Beethoven and Mozart with Daniel Barenboim and members of the Berlin Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony. Combs has appeared as soloist numerous times with the Chicago Symphony and with orchestras nation-wide, and performs as a member of the World Orchestra for Peace.
JENNIFER COMBS
Cellist Jennifer Combs enjoys a lively and varied musical life as a chamber musician, soloist and orchestral player. Having made her home in New Britain Connecticut, Ms Combs commutes to New York City, coaching eight varied chamber music groups at the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, preparing them for performances at Lincoln Center.
While in New York, Ms Combs performs with groups such as the Little Orchestra Society and the Discovery Orchestra for educational public television. In Connecticut, Ms. Combs enjoys performing with the New Haven Symphony and Hartford Symphony Orchestras while maintaining a private teaching studio in her home.
RICK FERGUSON
A native of Gadsden, Alabama, Roderick (Rick) Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Birmingham-Southern College (magna cum laude) and a Master of Music Degree from the University of Houston where he studied with world-renowned concert artist Abbey Simon. His studies have also taken him to the Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA) and Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) for post-graduate study.
An active chamber musician, Mr. Ferguson has been a senior fellow for the Chicago Chamber Musicians and has performed chamber music, solo and concerto repertoire in the US and Europe.
Awards include two Obelisk Awards for excellence in the performing arts (Birmingham, AL) and the first prize in the inaugural Brazos Valley Young Artist Competition (College Station, TX). Teachers and mentors include Daniel Ericourt, Deborah Sobol, Ivan Davis, Joseph Block, Jörg Demus, Delores Hodgens-Howard, and Roy McAllister.
Mr. Ferguson is featured on Romantic Songs for Clarinet and Piano (Southport Records) with clarinetist Wagner Campos and on Retrato VI by composer Eddie Mora with the Chicago Clarinet Trio (Albany Records). Four Songs of Claude Debussy for clarinet and piano (in conjunction with Mr. Campos) is available through Opus One Publishing.
Mr. Ferguson maintains an active life as teacher, composer and arts advocate as co-founder and artistic director of The Musical Offering (Evanston, IL) and classical piano instructor at the Chicago Academy for the Arts. On the composition side, Concerto Grosso On Dystopian Themes for youth orchestra is a commissioned work through Foundation 65 (Evanston, IL) which is currently bringing Mr. Ferguson much joy and is set for a May 2018 premier. Additional works for primarily youth ensembles are in the works. Mr. Ferguson is a strong advocate of STEAM-based education in our public schools.
ABOUT ANDRZEJ ANWEILER...
Polish-American composer/pianist Andrzej Anweiler was born in Germany and lived in New Britain , Connecticut, from 1951 until his death in 2009. He attended local schools and graduated from Hartt College at the University of Hartford and the Manhattan School of Music in addition to his studies in Warsaw, Poland, and London, England.
Anweiler has been internationally acclaimed as a pianist having unique style, elegance and technical brilliance. He appeared as a soloist with orchestras and in recital to enthusiastic reviews and has made numerous recordings for radio and television both in Europe and the United States. Among his many concert appearances are performances in Wigmore Hall and the Commonwealth Institute in London, the Musikverein, Vienna, Beethovenssaal, Berlin, Ostrogski Palace (Chopin Society) and Philharmonic Hall, Warsaw, Carnegie Recital Hall, the Kosciuszko Foundation Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art.
A composer, as well as a pianist, Andrzej wrote music for radio and the theater, chamber music and two ballets, including the score for Heritage, a ballet for television based on the immigrant experience on Ellis Island, and the multimedia historical musical, Grudka Ziemi: Song of the Beloved Country, describing Polands two-hundred year struggle for independence.
He created the music for Gogols The Overcoat, a dramatic pantomime by Rajmund Klechot, which was premiered in Dayton, Ohio, and performed to critical success in New York and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. after winning top honors at the national American College Theater Festival. He also received a Meritorious Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center for his music to Shakespeares The Tempest. In the fall of 2004, following the devastating hurricanes in Florida, he wrote an anthem for soloist, chorus and orchestra, called We Stand Together, extolling the spirit and resilience of the people of Florida as they rebuilt from the ruins. It was given an emotional and moving performance by the Charlotte Symphony in November of 2004. Recent works included Concertino for Piano & Small Orchestra, the Symphony # 1, performed in Connecticut and New York, Piano Quartet and the Trio for Clarinet, Cello & Piano, both premiered at Music Mountain in Falls Village, CT. The Capriccio for Clarinet and Orchestra had its first performance in April 2004, and Diversions for Two Clarinets was premiered at the international ClarinetFest in Tokyo, Japan in July 2005 and a recording released on CD in 2008. Mr. Anweiler was listed in the prestigious American Keyboard Artists and was included in the Polish-American Whos Who.
Anweiler passed away at the young age of 61 after a long and courageous battle with Chronic Lymphocitic Leukemia. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Combs, and their two daughters.
