In addition to Sheila Hanford's work as a member of the MO faculty, she has performed with Chicagos Lyric Opera, Music of the Baroque, Chicago Philharmonic, Elgin Symphony and the Rembrandt Chamber Players. Sheila has also performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra and the Minnesota Opera. She holds a Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance from Northwestern University.
In addition to serving on the faculty of Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, Robert Hanford is concertmaster of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and a member of the Rembrandt Chamber Players. He has also served as concertmaster of the Music of the Baroque, the Chicago Philharmonic, and Ars Viva.
Previously, Robert was the associate principal second violinist of the Minnesota Orchestra, a member of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and a member of Chicago's Grant Park Symphony. He has appeared as soloist on numerous occasions with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony and many other Midwestern orchestras.
Victoria Holland, soprano
Victoria Holland was trained as a lyric soprano with a Doctorate of Music in voice and opera performance at Northwestern University, which included extensive studies of vocal pedagogy, musicology, and music theory. She has been singing professionally since 1993. She regularly presents vocal masterclasses and eagerly collaborates as a guest lecturer, presenting on a range of topics including Italian art song for voice and guitar, bel canto style and technique, Gregorian chant, technology in the classroom, and differentiation in general music classrooms. As a member of the College of Examiners for Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music, she hears and assessed singers throughout North America based on the national standards set by RCM. She performs in venues throughout the Chicagoland area, such as Chicago's Symphony Center, the Ravinia Festival's Martin Theater, the Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago's Fourth Presbyterian Church, Alliance Française de Chicago, and Harper College Performing Arts Center.
Caroline Pittman, flute
Caroline Pittman received her music degrees from Stetson University and The Manhattan School of Music. Her principal teachers were Parker Taylor, Geoffrey Gilbert, Charlie DeLaney, Harold Bennett, Thomas Nyfenger and Harvey Sollberger. She is principal flute with The Park Ridge Civic Orchestra, was a founding member of the CUBE Contemporary Chamber Ensemble with whom she performed for 26 years. She performs with the Salt Creek Ballet and the DaCorneto Opera company and has played with the CSO, Grant Park, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Chicago, Elgin, Northwest Indiana Orchestras and others.
Eleanor Kirk, harp
As a harpist performing with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Eleanor Kirk is an experienced orchestral, chamber, and solo musician. In addition to numerous awards, she has received honors at the YoungArts Competition in 2012, the Luminarts Competition in 2017, and the Chicago Chapter of the American Harp Society Competition. Ms. Kirk has played in major venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, the Civic Opera House, and Symphony Center in Chicago. She holds a bachelors degree from Columbia University in the City of New York, where she served as the harpist and PR director for SPEAKmusic; a collective of young performers, composers, and storytellers from Columbia University and the Juilliard School.
Kirk is currently working toward a Masters of Music in Orchestral Studies at Chicago College of Performing Arts with Lyric Opera of Chicago principal harpist Lynn Williams. In addition to balancing academic pursuits, and varied performances, Kirk enjoys teaching in her private studio in Chicago.
Rick Ferguson, piano
A native of Gadsden, Alabama, Roderick (Rick) Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Birmingham-Southern College (magna cum laude) and a Master of Music Degree from the University of Houston where he studied with world-renowned concert artist Abbey Simon. His studies have also taken him to the Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA) and Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) for post-graduate study.
An active chamber musician, Mr. Ferguson has been a senior fellow for the Chicago Chamber Musicians and has performed chamber music, solo and concerto repertoire in the US and Europe.
Awards include two Obelisk Awards for excellence in the performing arts (Birmingham, AL) and the first prize in the inaugural Brazos Valley Young Artist Competition (College Station, TX). Teachers and mentors include Daniel Ericourt, Deborah Sobol, Ivan Davis, Joseph Block, Jörg Demus, Delores Hodgens-Howard, and Roy McAllister.
Mr. Ferguson is featured on Romantic Songs for Clarinet and Piano (Southport Records) with clarinetist Wagner Campos and on Retrato VI by composer Eddie Mora with the Chicago Clarinet Trio (Albany Records). Four Songs of Claude Debussy for clarinet and piano (in conjunction with Mr. Campos) is available through Opus One Publishing.
Mr. Ferguson maintains an active life as teacher, composer and arts advocate as co-founder and artistic director of The Musical Offering (Evanston, IL) and classical piano instructor at the Chicago Academy for the Arts. On the composition side, Concerto Grosso On Dystopian Themes for youth orchestra is a commissioned work through Foundation 65 (Evanston, IL) which is currently bringing Mr. Ferguson much joy and is set for a May 2018 premier. Additional works for primarily youth ensembles are in the works. Mr. Ferguson is a strong advocate of STEAM-based education in our public schools.
