"Come Dance With Me In Ireland: A Pilgrimage to Yeats Country.
Celtic harpist and story-teller Patrick Ball will bring a special pilgrimage performance to Willits Community Theatre on Sunday, March 25th at 2pm. For his annual appearance at WCT, Ball has quite the story this time around. Having recently pursued fellowship studies at the National University of Ireland in Galway, Ball returns with an homage to the life and works of Irish poet William Butler Yeats. "Come Dance With Me In Ireland: A Pilgrimage to Yeats Country will include Balls spell-binding renditions of Yeats poems, mesmerizing sounds from his Maplewood Celtic harp and the recounting of a central tale of an elderly Irish couple returning to their homeland in search of hope and healing.
In his passion for the eloquence and beauty of the Irish oral tradition, Ball brings to life Yeats Nobel Prize-winning poems, which he says were originally written to be read out loud. In his tale of the Irish couple, they have been living in the States, and the husband is having memory problems. His wife decides it may help to being him back to Ireland. Ball says, Well be taking the Willits audience on a Yeats country tour, in western Ireland, where the husband and wife re-discover the poetry of Yeats. He wrote his poetry to be spoken out loud and thats precisely where its great beauty and power comes through.
With his sure Irish wit, the resonant tones from the old country and the crystalline, bell-like notes from the legendary Celtic harp, Balls performance is guaranteed to take his listeners into the deeper realms of the Yeats poetic imagination. Ball has been awarded grants for his work by the Zellerbach Family Fund and the California Arts Council and is the recipient of the Circle of Excellence Award from the National Storytelling Association. His appearance at WCT is a popular annual treat--so early tickets are encouraged.
