The César E. Chávez Fundraiser Scholarship Breakfast has been the most consistent and inspiring event where scholarship recipients have the opportunity to share their academic goals and those in attendance witness the impact of their scholarship gift.
The Chicano Latino Coalition (ChLC) of Southwestern College has grown into an essential and robust organization from its inception in the 1970s. The Coalition was the brainchild of Professors Emeriti, Gladys Castellanos Barrett, Jaime Salazar, and Administrator Greg Sandoval. Although an organization existed at Southwestern College originally called MAFA, Mexican American Faculty Association; Gladys, Jaime, and Gregs vision was of an inclusive organization comprised of Classified Professionals, Faculty, and Administrators that would support the educational goals of students. After all these years, the Chicano Latino Coalition has remained steadfast in its support of the core mission of Southwestern Community College.
Over the years, the Coalition has undertaken many successful events, to name a few: hosting graduation celebrations, where families were invited to share their childrens accomplishments; to the Coalitions first Gala Scholarship Fundraiser in 1999; to the fruition of naming the campus One-Stop Student Services Center in honor of César E. Chávez, American labor leader, civil rights activist, and humanitarian in October 2005; to community leadership recognition.
It is our hope that you will continue to attend and support the activities of the Chicano Latino Coalition and thereby consider making a scholarship gift by purchasing a table a/ticket(s) for the upcoming fundraising scholarship breakfast on Thursday, March 22, 2018, to be held in the Wellness & Aquatics Complex gymnasium, Building 1500 at 6:45 a.m. -9 a.m.
