The Carnegie Library and the Dallidet Adobe -- Joseph Carotenuti, Chuck Croster, Luther & Betsy Betrando
Join LLCC for a diverse day that promises to provide insights into the history of two San Luis Obispo landmarks: the Carnegie Library and the architecture of the historic building; and the History Center's current exhibit dedicated to the Dallidet family followed by a tour of their 1850's adobe home (California State Landmark #7120).
The day will begin at the Carnegie Library Museum where Joseph Carotenuti, San Luis Obispo's City Historian/Archivist will provide background and documents about the evolution of this building through a new publication The Carnegie Library. Each participant will receive a copy of this publication, which is filled with information and images of the County's first library building. Mr. Carotenuti will also summarize the library in San Luis Obispo in the 10 years before the opening of the Carnegie.
Following Mr. Carotenuti, Cal Poly Archithecture Proffesor Chuck Crotser will describe some of the interesting architectural features of the building that stood as the City's library until 1955.The Carnegie Library (now the San Luis Obispo History Center) was designed by William H. Weeks and built by Theo Maino in 1904.
You will have a chance to visit the soon to be retired museum exhibit French Connections: Art Wine and Exploration in San Luis Obispo County. This exhibit explores the Dallidet Family with rarely seen art work by daughter Ascencion. The rich and varied background of the family will provide an excellent introduction to the tour of their home.
After a lunch break (weather permitting, you might want to bring your lunch and eat in the Dallidet Gardens), Luther and Betsy Betrando will provide a tour and commentary regarding the historic adobe home.

TIME: 9:30-11:30 am
PLACE: The History Center Museum (696 Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo). Parking is a short two blocks away in the parking structure next to the Ah Louis Store)
Time: 1:00-2:00 pm
Place: The Dallidet Adobe (1185 Pacific Street, San Luis Obispo). Since parking is limited, carpooling is recommended.
